The aimed of this study is to show misogyny exposed by male character in Margaret Atwood’s Surfacing. Atwood unveils patriarchal practice a seemingly perfect marriage. Surfacing tells the story wife who lives under pressure her husband. Using feminist literary approach, novel scrutinized applying close reading method. source data for novel, book reviews, and articles written about author book. This textual study, collecting data, researchers applied gathered form words, phrase sentence Some steps are taken first step understanding theme, character, backdrop story. next Identifying quotations, dialogs relating theme. analyzed descriptively. Based on analysis, embedded culture internalized customs. inferior position woman result domination all aspects life. It concluded that oppressed economically, traditionally ideologically. Patriarchal ideology shows wife/woman like goods which can be treated according wishes husband/owner.
